Scholarship Opportunities

The Sandwich Recreation Department is proud to announce that it will be offering up to $2500 in program scholarships to current Sandwich Recreation Summer Program participants to assist with program registration fees.

These new scholarships are being made possible through the generous grant donation from The Fund for Sandwich of the Cape Cod Foundation.

Spirit of Sandwich July 4th Parade at 4pm

 Who: 
Everyone (local businesses, groups, organizations, antique cars, individuals, families, neighborhoods, etc.) is invited to participate in the Spirit of Sandwich 4th of July Parade.

Groups, marchers, and vehicles must be registered with the Recreation Department. Deadline to register is JUNE 29TH. to register click here
 

When: NEW START TIME for 2021: Parade starts at 4PM from the Henry T. Wing School, 33 Water Street.

Where: Starting on Route 130 (Water Street) in front of Wing School through downtown Sandwich via Main street , Beale Ave and ending on Morse Road. For route map visit: 4th of July Parade Route Map 2021

Please note:
All marchers and bikers

  • Children may walk or ride their decorated bikes. No battery or gas powered children's vehicles are allowed.- Must per-register by clicking here.
  • All children 16 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult.
  • All marchers and bikers please arrive at the front parking lot of the Henry T. Wing School, located on 33 water Street Sandwich MA, by 2:30pm; (parking in the back lot at Wing School).
  • We suggest you bring an ample supply of drinking water for your group.
  • For the safety of the public watching the parade, throwing candy is prohibited. You may have walkers next to your vehicle handing out candy.

All vehicles and floats:

  • All vehicles and floats must per-register by clicking here:
  • All vehicles and floats will enter through Morse Road off of Beal Ave (see attached map) by 2:00pm to be lined up. Vehicles and floats must be fully decorated. All additional vehicles to be parked in Wing School back parking lot, NO STREET PARKING.
  • Vehicles in the parade are limited to 2 Axels and limited to 3/4 ton gross vehicle weight (GVW) Two responsible adults must be in the vehicle.
  • The Recreation Department reserves the right to prohibit a vehicle or group to participate in the parade if it is deemed inappropriate, offensive, or in poor taste or for violating the no water rules.
  • If you are driving a vehicle, other than an antique or classic car, please decorate your vehicle. We welcome patriotic music being played.
  • We suggest you bring an ample supply of drinking water for your group.

ADULT  SUMMER  PROGRAMS

 

Adult Co Ed Kickball

Join us for this all new co ed adult kickball league. Games will be played at the Oak Ridge School Fields and will be 30 min a game. This is a non competitive league so come out and have some fun with your friends!

WHO: Adult Males & Females

WHEN: June 23 - August 25 

WHERE: Water District Fields and Oak Ridge School 

COST: R $70.00 NR $80.00

 

Adult Co Ed Soccer League

All levels welcome! Wednesday evenings 6/23 - 8/25. Games will start at 6:30 pm each week for the first part of the season. Beginning 7/28, the games will start at 6:00 as daylight will begin to be an issue. 

Each Wednesday evening there will be 2 games at the Water District Fields and 1 at Oak Ridge School.

The league is Co-ed. Men need to be over 30, women can be over 21.

Men’s Tennis League, age 18 and over.

Strictly a doubles format. Matches are held on Mondays at Sandwich High School, either at 6pm or 8pm. Anyone added to the free wait list will serve as alternates when needed

Vinyasa Flow Yoga

 A Zoom link can be provided if you prefer to participate from home.

 

Suitable for students with some yoga experience who like to break a sweat; ages 16 and older

Bring your own mat and blocks if possible. Masks are required.

 In this class, yoga postures are consciously linked together with breath to create a graceful yet dynamic flow. Students will be encouraged to visit some poses for several breaths, allowing adequate time to make adjustments that help deepen their practice and align the physical body. You will strengthen and build flexibility, all while finding a sense of deep inner calm.

Yoga For All

 A Zoom link can be provided if you choose to participate at home.

Suitable for all as Gillian offers modifications and meets you “where you are;” ages 12 and up welcome

Bring your own mat and blocks if possible. Masks are required.

 Yoga is self-care. As you practice, your bones, muscles, heart, brain, nervous system - and more - will benefit! Explore floor and standing yoga poses, breath work and positive visualization techniques that will strengthen & soothe your body and mind. Side effects may include feelings of peace, serenity, and calm!

Line Dancing

Y’all come down to Sandwich Recreation and try our all new Line Dancing Class! This will be a welcome back to line dancing class and is offered at half price this session only! Join dancers of all levels and learn some fun line dances or just come for the great exercise! 

Our Line Dancing Instructor Debbie Israel will teach a variety of line dances to all genres of music. You never need a partner in our line dancing lessons but feel free to bring along your favorite partner or some friends and join us for a fun night out!

SWIMMING LESSONS

 

Swimming Lessons Information

Swimming lessons are back at Oak Crest Cove and better than before! Join us on Peter’s Pond this summer for semi private American Red Cross swim instruction!

Semi-private lessons are being offered to swimmers of all ages and swimming abilities in groups of no more than 4 swimmers. These lessons are perfect for siblings, cousins, neighbors, and friends who want to lean to swim together in a more individualized setting than traditional lessons offer. Each class is led by an American Red Cross certified Instructor . Due to the more individualized instruction participants tend to build stronger skill sets quicker and gain confidence in the water while having fun and limiting contacts.

Classes will run Monday, Wednesday, Friday for a ½ hour class – 2 week session. This would give a total of 6 classes of semi-private swim instruction for $150 .

There are no credits or refunds issued for semi private lessons. Please note: there will NOT be make-up classes for cancellations due to unsafe swimming conditions (Ex:weather) Classes will be held in the rain 

All classes will meet at Peter's Pond Public Beach located at Oak Crest Cove - 34 Quaker Meetinghouse Road in Forestdale.

Please note: Resident Beach sticker will be required for all vehicles entering Oak Crest Cove. Non-Residents- please email the Recreation Office to receive a parking pass specific to your swim lesson date and time.

 

Swim Levels:

Levels to help gauge what level your child is at skill wise. If you need help with the levels please email the Recreation department at : recreation@sandwichmass.org

 

LEVEL 1: Introduction to Water Skills ages 4 & up

* Orient participants to the aquatic environment and help them gain basic aquatic skills.

* Help participants begin to develop positive attitudes and safe practices around water

 * No skill prerequisites

* Must be 4 years & up

 

LEVEL 2: Fundamental Aquatics Skills

* Build on Basic Aquatic skills and water safety skills and concepts

* Pre requisites: Successful demonstration of the Learn to Swim Level 1 exit skills learned in Level 1 assessment

 

LEVEL 3: Stroke Development

* Build on skills learned in levels 1 and 2 to help participants achieve basic water competency in a pool environment

* Pre requisites: Successful demonstration of the learn to swim Level 2 exit skills assessment

 

Level 4: Stroke Development

* Improve participants' proficiency in performing the swimming strokes that were introduced in Level 3

* Pre requisites: Successful demonstration of the Learn to Swim Level 3 exit skills assessment

 

LEVEL 5: Stroke Refinement

* Help participants refine their performance of all six swimming strokes (i.e, front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, and sidestroke)

* Pre requisites: Successful demonstration of the Learn to Swim Level 4 exit skills

Kayak/ SUP with Rideaway Adventures

RideAway Adventures offers a very active and beginner friendly experience for their students. RideAway Adventure's goal is to create an active, welcoming and informational environment for students to experience the beauty of nature and the joy of an active lifestyle. This will be a kayaking and Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) class for all levels and abilities.

Skateboard Clinic with Knuclebones

Designed for beginner skateboarders with little to no experience, this class teaches fundamental skateboarding tricks and skills. Concentrating on balance, turning, accelerating, stopping, transitions, dropping in, Ollies, and a variety of other skills, we not only teach tricks but help participants develop confidence to apply them on their own.

Ninja Warrior with Knucklebones

Knucklebones Ninja is a blend of strength, skill, flexibility, fitness, and fun. Throughout class participants will engage in various games, drills, elements and obstacle courses. From scaling up cargo nets on a truss to walking across balance beams, climbing over the A Frame to hanging on monkey bars, this class allows participants to have fun while progressing though the basics of ninja warrior elements.

Youth Sailing

All Sailors must be able to pass a basic swim test

Level 1 - This is a group for sailors with very little or no experience. The focus of the class will be on parts of the boat, boating safety, and basic boat handling.

Level 2 - Sailor should have at least 1 year sailing experience or have  successfully completed the level I sailing class. Less time will be spent on learning parts of the boat and more time will be spent on boat handling.

Level 3 - Sailors should have at least 2 years sailing experience or have successfully completed both level I and II sailing classes. Sailors will    concentrate on boat handling and will be introduced to sailboat racing.

Level 4 - Sailors should have at least 3 years of sailing experience or  successfully completed levels I, II, and III sailing classes. The focus of the class will be on sail boat racing and advanced boat handling.

WHO: Ages 7 - 15

WHERE: Ryder Conservation Land ( Mashpee/Wakeby Pond off of South Sandwich Rd)Sailors should feel comfortable controlling the boat.

USTA Youth Tennis Lessons

WHAT: Tennis in the Parks - The tennis program where kids play while they learn!

Led by an approved USTA Net Generation tennis coach, the program will focus on developing the skills to serve, rally and play - so it’s perfect for beginners and first-time players. Once the skills are there, participants will play fun matches with other players in the program. This program uses modified tennis balls, age-appropriate rackets, court sizes, and the latest fun and engaging activities that help players successfully learn and play the game quicker!

All players in their first session receive and keep a new age-appropriate racket, ball, and Net Generation tee shirt!

Red Hot Robotics

Parkour

Parkour is a training discipline using movement that developed from military obstacle course training. Participants aim to get from one point to another in a complex environment, without assistive equipment in the fastest and most efficient way possible. Challenger Sports Soccer Clinic

Challenger Sports coaches will focus on introducing and developing each player’s soccer skills as their coaches follow an innovative curriculum that combines drills and games in a relaxed and fun environment to encourage development!
