Scholarship Opportunities

The Sandwich Recreation Department is proud to announce that it will be offering up to $2500 in program scholarships to current Sandwich Recreation Summer Program participants to assist with program registration fees.

These new scholarships are being made possible through the generous grant donation from The Fund for Sandwich of the Cape Cod Foundation.

** Please note.  The Sandwich Recreation Department is working closely with the Board of Health and following the latest COVID information put out weekly by the State of Massachusetts. We will continue to monitor the town of Sandwich case numbers and guidelines put forth by the state- Therefore, we reserve the right to discontinue a program at any time should the town or state feel it is in the best interest of the health and safety of our community. Please take the time to review the each programs modifications we have put into place to ensure all our participants safety. We encourage you to contact the Recreation Department directly with any questions or concerns that you may have.

Youth Programs:

Archery

Experience the thrill of traditional archery and find out why one of the world's oldest sports is making a comeback! This course integrates safety skills and the aiming process with a variety of skill building games. 

WHO: Grades 3-6

WHEN: Thursday’s May 6- May 27 3:30 PM- 4:30 PM

WHERE: Oak Crest Cove Camp Program Area 

COST: $65.00

 

Fencing

ALL NEW! This four week program is designed to introduce your child to the basic skills and proper techniques of fencing for the first time. Children will be taught by Jim Rose of Cape Cod Fencing Club.

WHO: Grades 3-6

WHEN: Wednesday’s May 5- May 26 3:30 PM-4:30 PM 

WHERE: Oak Crest Cove- Upper Level Lodge 

COST: $75.00

 

Mountain Biking

Great time to get outside and get on the trials!!
Join the Sandwich Recreation Department and NEMBA- New England Mountain Bike Association for this great introduction to the sport of mountain biking.
 Trails are suitable for all levels, and abilities and will cover roughly 2 – 6 miles of biking.  Mechanics will be on duty at all times.

WHEN: Wednesday’s May 5- June 9 4:30 PM-6:00 PM

WHERE: Oak Ridge School

Spring Soccer K-6

Challenger Sports coaches will focus on introducing and developing each player’s soccer skills as their coaches follow an innovative curriculum that combines drills and games in a relaxed and fun environment to encourage development!
Each of our weekly classes focuses on a particular soccer skill and progressively gets harder challenging each player to succeed and improve. Please note this program will not meet on Saturday, May 29, 2021

WHO: Grades K-2 and Grades 3-6

Backyard Games 

Get a head start on your summer and come be a part of this fun. With old, new, and creative backyard/ old school style games! This is going be a blast. This program is great for children of all abilities. Each week we will learn and play in a fun-filled, safe, and positive environment. Some of the backyard games we will play were your favorite growing up!  Kick the Can, In and Out, Medic, Trenches, Captain's Coming and many more. Let’s get kids back to the basic of fun!!

PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS

Spring Tiny Tykes

 

Sandwich Recreation is pleased to announce the return of the Challenger Sports Tiny Tykes Program for Spring 2021!
Come and join the FUN, interact with our phenomenal coaching staff and become Tiny Tyke for life. Tiny Tykes is an innovative program that introduces 3–6 years old to the basic skills of soccer. Tiny Tykes will be offered every Saturday, for 4 weeks throughout the Spring and each session lasts an hour.
 Our Curriculum provides an innovative approach to learning that allows children to explore and learn in a relaxed environment. The curriculum develops social, physical, and emotional skills through the medium of Soccer. 
 Please note the program will not meet on Saturday, May 29, 2021

High FIVE Preschool Skills

Healthy social and emotional DEVELOPMENT depends on the experiences that your child has during their first FIVE years. Gross motor play and movement is a great way to help your preschoolers build the skills they’ll need later in life and as they prepare for school. This program is designed to expose your preschooler to a variety of activities through music and games that will promote physical activity, help develop social skills while building confidence and independence. 

The program will be taught by Sarah Daley, former teacher at The Cape Cod Children’s Museum.   Each week Sarah will build off the previous class and parents will receive a newsletter complete with fun games and activities to try at home to build on the skills that your child will need to thrive!

Every Kid Dance

The Sandwich Recreation Department along with the Sandwich Partnership for Families is so excited to once again offer this exciting program thanks to funding from the Kiwanis Club of Sandwich!

EveryKid Dance is an adaptive dance and music program for preschoolers. Based on the Boston Ballet’s Adaptive Dance curriculum, this is not your typical dance class as it emphasizes creative movement, music and FUN! Combining many styles of movement, from African dance to yoga, along with opportunities to create music, EveryKid Dance is designed so that children of all abilities from ages 3-6 can experience the joy and develop a love of dance, music and the arts as well as achieve personal, social and physical growth in a compassionate and supportive environment.

“The mission of Adaptive Dance is to provide high quality, joyful, and engaging movement instruction for individuals with disabilities in order to foster a love of dance and creative expression and to promote physical and personal development …The guiding concepts for Adaptive Dance is: Discover, Explore and Create!”

Young Athletes- Special Olympics

The Sandwich Recreation Department along with the Sandwich Partnership for Families is so excited to once again offer this exciting FREE program thanks to funding from the Kiwanis Club of Sandwich!
This FREE unique sports and play program focusing on fun activities important to mental and physical growth. This program is an early introduction to sports in the world of Special Olympics.

Who: Children ages 2-7
When: Wednesday's 10:00-10:45 AM

Pre-School T-Ball

Join Sandwich Recreation as we introduce Tee Ball! Participants will learn the rules, how to hit, throw, catch and which direction to run the bases!

WHO: Preschoolers 3- 5 

WHEN: Tuesday’s May 4-May 25 4:30 PM – 5:30 PM 

WHERE: Oak crest Cove Courts

ADULT PROGRAMS:

Adult Pickleball Lessons

Learn this fun game which is reported as the fastest-growing game in the country.  Pickleball combines the games of tennis and table tennis, on a badminton-sized court.  It is easy to learn and fun to play!  The three week clinic will teach you to play the game, with an emphasis on fun and hands-on play, rather than lecture.  Participants are expected to wear casual clothing suitable for outdoor exercise, and court shoes are recommended (flat-soled sneakers with good lateral support).  Equipment will be provided if you aren’t able to bring a paddle.
Dave Brower is a certified instructor with the International Pickleball Teaching Professional Association, and has competed in many tournaments, winning multiple Gold medals in both the MA and RI Senior Games.

SANDWICH SAILORS – SPECIAL OLYMPICS PROGRAMS:

Awesome Outdoor HIKING PROGRAM  

Come join the Sandwich Sailors for some healthy fun outdoors! This FREE unified local Special Olympics program will take participants on short hikes throughout conservation areas in Sandwich! Each week the group will begin with stretches and then off for walking, observing and socializing as we take in the natural beauty of the Sandwich conservation lands. Each session will end with a snack. All participants are required to pre-register at Sandwich recreation and complete all Special Olympics required paperwork before participating. 

Who:    Ages 8 and up
When:  Sunday’s April 11 - May 16  

2:00- 3:00 PM 

Where: Registered participants will be notified each week of where to meet!
