The Sandwich Health Department is warning people of a cyanobacteria outbreak in Mashpee-Wakeby Pond.  The Sandwich Department of Natural Resources has monitored ponds and determined that the community should not utilize the pond for recreation or allow access to pets.

The Department of Natural Resources has posted the entrance to Wakeby-Ryder about the Cyanobacteria outbreak. Those people accessing Wakeby-Ryder Conservation area should not utilize the water or allow your pets to swim or drink the pond water.  See Sign Posted here.

Cyanobacteria is a result of the warm temperatures in the water and nutrient loading into the pond from septic systems and fertilizers.  Cyanobacteria or Blue-Green Algae will appear as a green dense growth on the surface and slightly below the water surface.
