The Sandwich Recreation Department and Health Department actively monitor the health of our ponds. Swimmers at the bathing beaches at Wakeby Pond (Ryder Conservation Area) and Peters Pond (Oak Crest Cove Beach) are notified today, Friday, June 30, 2023, by a physical posting at each swim area, where cyanobacteria has been observed, either adjacent to or within the swim area. Cyanobacteria can make people or animals ill and will remain a concern throughout the summer season. Physical notices will be posted or updated at each of our beaches as advised. Please follow the guidance from the Centers for Disease Control about how to detect, observe and reduce exposure to cyanobacteria here: https://www.cdc.gov/habs/pdf/332669A_FS_CyanobacterialBlooms_508.pdf and more information from Barnstable County here: https://www.capecod.gov/departments/health-environment/programs-services/water-and-wastewater/cyanobacteria-monitoring-efforts/
